Etymology
Cognate with Igala ẹ̀dọ̀ (“torso, chest, heart”), proposed to be derived from Proto-Yoruboid *ɛ̀-dɔ̀ (“chest, heart”). The form semantically shifted from heart/chest to liver in Yoruba, but maintains the chest meaning in some dialects like Ekiti. However, compounds like ẹ̀dọ̀fùfù (“impulsiveness, irritability”), still show remnants of that original meaning
